Control Line Events
The CL programme, organised by SAM 35 and CLAPA, is as follows:
Saturday 12th May: Rascal and Voetsak, Weatherman and Phantom Speed and VTR, ½A and A only.
Sunday 13th May: Aerobatics (F2B, Vintage and Classic) and Vintage Combat.
Ron Moulton Memorial DayPlans are proceeding at pace to organise the second Ron Moulton Memorial Weekend at Old Warden, during the annual MayFly event. Sports CL flyers are very welcome, especially if they fly a Ron Moulton-designed model, and there will be a number of model-specific competitions on the Saturday, to honour ron's unforgettable contribution to this discipline.
Saturday 12th May: Ron's family will be sharing the day with us, and will be presenting the Ron Moulton Memorial Trophy for a model of choice, of one of Ron's designs.
Ebenezer Day
Sunday 13th May: On the free flight field, there will be a number of sports competitions, including the internationally supported Ebenezer Trophy and Mass Launch. The fun starts with the award of the award of the annual Bert Striegler Trophy for the best Ebenezer variant, and culminates with the mayhem of the mass Ebenezer Launch. If you haven't witnessed this before, be there! (at your own risk!!)
SAM35 will also be holding a competition for under 25" span rubber models - after the Ebenezer Mass Launch there will be a Mass Launch of Cloud Tramps!
Boddo Memorial Day
Sunday 13th May: We will again be celebrating David Boddington's huge contribution to RC modelling. Any Boddo-designed RC models are welcome. Please display your Boddo models during the day in the static pound. David's family will be joining us, and will present the David Boddington Memorial Trophy for the model that best reflects The Spirit of Boddo.
New activities & competitions for 2012
New this year will be informal CL competitions for two of Ron Malmström's funnier designs - the Mercurian Mite and the Saucy Satellite (close relatives of the Ebenezer). This event will run on both days. It will take only a few evenings to build one (see ModelFlyer magazine January 2012); you don't have to fly it yourself - proxy pilots are allowed!
We've heard a rumour that a crowd of lads will be bringing a box of some ready-made control line models so anyone can form a team and have a go at some 'competitive' team racing - you just need two - one to pilot and one to pit. Sounds like fun!
