Competitions

Although some pilots take the competitions seriously, ModelAir run most of the competitions as a light-hearted way of recognising the skill and expertise of modellers at the weekend flying events. On some occasions, awards have been won by pilots who didn't know they were being judged - much to their surprise and delight of course! Competitions are usually run on the Sunday of each weekend flying event.

To be included in the competitions, models must have been flown successfully.

ModelAir Junior Free Flight Trophy

Matchstick Man

The Free Flight rubber 'Matchstick Man' stick model has been selected to be the model to be used to compete for this new Trophy at the ModelAir model flying weekend 'Festival of Flight' on Sunday, 28 September 2008, Old Warden Aerodrome.
The competition is open to all juniors (under 16 years old) who must have built and trimmed their own 'Matchstick Man' (some help from Dad for the very young will be permitted at the organisers’ discretion) and be able to fly it on the day of the competition. The competition will be on an 'all up together, last one down wins' basis, at a time decided on the day, depending on weather conditions.

Matchstick Man Plan

For a copy of the plan ...

You can email Ken Sheppard (or phone 07810 817089) to request an entry form plus an electronic copy of the plan by email (which you can print out and photocopy to enlarge to size), or ask for a full size copy (and entry form) to be sent by post (P&P will be charged). You will also be able to enter on the day.

See RC Model Flyer Magazine January 2008 issue for article on 'Matchstick Man'.
